i'll be getting a s10 box when my steering box fails or starts leaking, might want to look into that. as far as quality though, I'll try my luck with a reman box and just send it back if it fails also. they all have warranties so it's not like you wasted your money, but they're really hit or miss.

If I am going to try my luck / waste my time with a reman box, I might as well try to reman my own box. That way I know it still has all OEM parts in it, not China.
How are all you guys ok with replacing a box every year? I know it doesnt cost anything but time, but what a pain! To me that is not a solution, its just wrong. Its more like getting handed garbage and told to deal with it until the garbage turns to mold. Then you will get more garbage for free just to repeat the cycle. It doesnt make any sense. I want to do this right the first time and not have to worry about it for years. Is that too much to ask for?
I will look in to the S10 box. Thanks Cane.

no ones okay with it, it sucks! But it's the best option when given the choices for the money. I've tried most of the options and the results are all about the same, just trying to save you from the learning curve. These dinky little boxes just weren't meant for off roading. As mentioned, on your tire size you should get more than a year though. I'm ditching the concept altogether, steering boxes suck

Alright. I thought about it. As of right now, I am pointing towards trying the Crown unit. Not one person has said anything about it. Crown is known for quality parts and I feel its worth the gamble. I will let this thread go for a little while longer before I pull the trigger in hopes someone else has something to say about the Crown box.
Atmos - you nailed it with the steering box comment. Full hydro ftw!

They are?? Most parts I see from them have very mixed reviews. I've had bad experiences with a free of their stuff. There are some that have all good reviews and some all bad. But most are about even haha...i don't know if I would say quality, but at least they have most parts for the xj.Originally Posted by 5-Speed

Yes pretty much. Im saying its a step ahead with no other competitor's between. Next step up from there is the psc box. Not a very good variety.Originally Posted by Martlor13

I have 40 bucks once a year not 300? & Ill break/compromise it in one wheeling season regardless reman or not. Buy a PSC if you want the best.
Stock jeep will run the same box almost forever, but lift tires, wheeling style contribute to the shortened lifetime. The zj is way worse on boxes because of the extra weight.

Alright guys. I decided to go the cheap route and just deal with what I get. I ordered up an AC Delco box from Rock Auto. $150 with a $40 core included. Just need to order up an aftermarket box brace (dont think mine is cracked but always worth the upgrade) and all should be good.

Let us know how it works out. This is on my to-do list as well and I was debating vs the crown box. If this works out for you, I'd probably go this route and save the $150+!

I definitely will! If all goes perfect, the parts will be here before the weekend. And if that is the case, I will do the install this weekend in the wonderful +110° weather we are having. At least I will be in the garage with the AC blasting!Originally Posted by THX-1138

I hope it works! I did the same... followed by 2 AGR boxes, and every single one had play! I finally bit the bullet and went with a full PSC setup and couldn't be happier. At least you're only out $150 if its a bad rebuild. If that doesn't work, I recommend going straight to a PSC box though. I wasted a LOT of time swapping boxes only to have the same issues. If you do go with PSC, I'd recommend sticking with a stock pump as its almost too easy to turn with my PSC pump and 35's... I mean like, butter smooth with no resistance!
Pictures of said PSC goodness:

Thanks for the input USN. Good to know on the pump deal too. And ya thats what I figured. If it only last for 6 months then whatever. It was cheap and I tried. If it last me 5 years, sweet! If it does fail quickly, PSC will be next. I also forgot to mention a very important thing that I am doing as well. Hopefully something that will help the box live a bit longer. I am going to be putting on the Boostwerks ultimate steering brace. Should help out.Originally Posted by USN_JeepXJ
