Later Cherokees with Small Lifts poll
Hey Guys I have a '99 sport cherokee I'm gonna be lifting, but I really don't want to run into too many problems (ie vibrations). I would only be going 2"-3" (I was actually thinking 2.5"). I know with such a small lift USUALLY there aren't any problems...but I know the later cherokees have more exceptions, and every jeep is different. So I figured I'd make a poll....

I have a 93 Country and did 2" coils up front, replacement HD spring packs rear with 1.75" shackles. I had to do a 1" TC drop and 4 degree shims to get rid of the vibrations. Based off everyones responses in similar threads it really depends on your Jeep and not a particular year it seems.

I have a 1996 cherokee Sport 4.0
I did a 3", AAL (with almost brand new rear leafs) and 3" coils in the front...
had a minor noise when I would let off the gas... simple 1" tcase drop and some shims I had laying around...

The only reason I would do 2" over 3" is because i've heard thats when you start running into these problems..and gas mileage. I think this my plan:
2" OME rear leaves (mine are flat) with new coils and shocks all around...and if that gives me no problems I can always shackle and spacer it for the additional 1" or so?
I would do the opposite if my rear leaves weren't so flat

To the OP, lift size does NOT affect gas mileage. Your tires do. I vote a 3" on 30x9.5's.

what about washer Tcase drops? i only had to drop mine with 2 washers on each bolt, but that was also when i installed a new tranny mount, which raised it a good deal. its probably settled by now. i think i'll vote 3" no problems.

When people say it depends on the jeep it depends on what transmission, transfer case, and rear axle you have.
I know that the NP242 is longer than the NP231, and the Chrysler 8.25's yoke is closer to the t-case than the dana 35. I am not sure about the transmission lengths, but i had an NP242 with the c8.25, 3.5" and a 1" t-case drop will crazy vibrations. I swapped in an NP231 with a sye, and no t-case drop and everything is better now. When the t-case and the rear is closer to each other that means than the driveshaft angle will be bigger.

I have a 3 inch with full leaf packs in the rear....after I had slight vibrations at 55+ so a few months later I added a 1 inch t-case drop and have no problems since then.

Mine,
'97 4.0, ax-15, 231, 8.25, vibrations at 1.5" over stock.
I'm very certain many folks would have said, they did not notice, or, they would have been fine with that small amount of vib's.
