so im looking into a BDS 4.5" short arm lift kit. comes with a trackbar, swaybar discos, upper and lower control arms, shocks and springs (full packs), brake lines and a stabilizer.

now, with 4.5" of lift. do i really NEED an SYE? some say i do and others say i dont. right now i dont plan on any serious wheeling right now. i just really need to get all the suspension and bushings done so its driveable without deathwobble.
so i figured i'll just lift it, put the good set of 31's i have on it and just use it as a DD until i get the other stuff like the SYE if i really NEED it to go wheelin.

it depends on how bad the vibes are, i would at least do a T-case drop to help keep it to a minimum. but u cant really know how bad its guna be until u drive it after the lift

I don't know about you, but I'd rather save up a little more cash and do it right the first time. It all depends on your plans with it and how you drive it though.

just saying, I didnt have a choice in running a sye or not, with the rear driveshaft that was on my jeep, at 4.5'' of lift it was maxed out, to the point that any travel would have bent / broke it. So I got a sye.

TC drop is garbage, might as well have a 3'' lift at that point. Also, 4.5'' on short arms sucks. Down travel is limited to almost none.

ok, well hows the IRO Hack-N-Tap SYE? is the install fairly easy? good buy for the money? for $200 its the sye and a refurb shaft. or should i just stick with a TC drop?

also looking at the IRO kits, they are cheaper than BDS, plus i could afford their long arm setup. either way i wanna do a kit with all new arms, trackbar, and full packs. $2000 is my budget,

I'm about 5" in the rear with no tc drop and have beenn this way for 3 years or more.it is my dd and vibes were minimal, lately I have noticed more vibes. I wanted to wait for the sye kit to get all the parts I needed so that it would be a 1 time deal when I split the tc. i'm putting in a 6 pinion planetry along with the heavy duty chain upgrade.
I was considering the iro hack and tap but then after thinking and doing a ton more research about it I will pick up a porc sye kit($160ish) and use a front drive shaft for the rear out of a 4.0 aw4 np231 jeep. Jy will have these and for relitively cheap.

did you try to shim the axle?

maybe on stock arms... but a good set of after market arms has a bend or the axle side bushing is offset for more/better clearance...

that is because in 1996 the transfer cases got a longer unsupported slip yoke...
