Default K&N air intake

Would this cone air intake system be bad for offroading because it has bigger pores and is more susceptible to water/mud/dirt?

Probably if you do a lot of serious off-roading/mudding. And if youre slow crawling, its just going to put a bunch of warm air into it. I just took mine off in place of the stock airbox with K&N filter. The cone seemed awesome for like the first month, but after that I didnt notice a difference. I think Im going to try a Spectre cowl filter sometime soon. I like the idea of it being OUT of the engine compartment AND being protected from mud, water, debris, etc.

Ah bummer cause I found a deal for this and a 62mm bored throttle body. Then I was gunna run some 849 fuel injectors. Would offroading just cause the filter needing to be replaced more often or would it let **** into my engine?

Depends on how deep your going, where the filter is, how well protected it is, etc. Lots of variables. Put a K&N OEM style filter in the box it and a snorkel. No problems then. Well, less problems. It just depends on how deep youre going, how much mud gets in there, etc.

I'm hopefully buying a front skid soon, so they should keep some mud out. But my major concern is would it allow crap in my engine or would it just get clogged easier?

It all depends. You know better than anyone if youre currently getting crap in there. If so, I wouldnt bother with it. And really, and isnt a real upgrade over the stock box UNLESS you move it out of there. Like I said, I took my cone off and put the box back in. At some point I WILL put on a cone up in the wiper cowl, where it WILL get cold air, AND make a difference.

So what would happen if it got wet? Like hood under water wet?

And if it does allow dust into the engine what would happen?

are you kidding me, this can't be a serious question? Hmmmmmmm let's see hood under water, then that crappy CAI must be (drum roll...) Underwater!!!! So this means yes its letting water and crap in your engine. Buy the combo deal you found sell the intake and get a cowl intake or snorkel.

As annoyingly written as that was, I went with your advice... obviously I'm a beginner to engines and how they work so no need to be an ***. If I went with the cowl intake, wouldn't that allow water from a big puddle splashing up and onto my windshield thru the vents into the air intake? Hell, wouldn't that allow rain in too? So how does the cowl work exactly... I looked it up on quadratec and read the instructions but I don't get how it doesnt let in water so easily.

I wasn't trying to be an ***, just some sarcastic criticism to help you think outside the box. And no the Cowl is actually covered on one side, it will let water in but the water falls down then drains out before a harmful amount can be taken in. Well as long as you keep the water level reasonable

Gotcha. So this would be more "water ready" than a stock air box? If it were you, would you go with a nice filter and a snorkel or a cowl if the prices were in the same ballpark.

What ever looks cooler to you, the cowl snorkel is loud. I prefer the look of a snorkel so snorkel.

So they're essentially the same, both higher quality than a stock air box, but in different locations. Also random question, but do snorkels mount on the a-pillar?
