Just wondering-swap 4.0 another rig?
Hey all. Just wondering. I've had 3 Cherokees now & one of the biggest reasons is the famous 4.0 I6 in these things. I've read several threads on swapping other engines into Cherokees but what about swapping the engine/tranny from one of these into another vehicle. What's the best generation-Renix or HO? Just wondering...

block wise, they are all good, stay away from the 2000-01 cylinder heads, tend to crack more often

swaps
Yeah, I've heard that. I'm wondering what bolt pattern these engines are compatible with. For instance, if I found a deal on an older wide track cherokee could I swap the 4.0 from a newer jeep & if so, which is easier to swap, the Renix or HO? I was also wondering if you could bolt a carb intake & older style ditributor onto these engines to avoid the related wiring.

yes and no on carb work. complete rewire to get the computer to dismiss the missing signals if you switch to carb, and even worse.... if you do get it switched and running top notch certain states with inspections can fail you for not adhereing to the vehicles VIN
