Default just lifted my xj, hearing grinding. help?

so i just lifted my 2000 xj and put new wheels and tires. i have a cheapo 2 inch lift in the back and 1 inch spacer in the front (not really taking this thing off-road other than a little beach cruising.) it looks great the wheels and tires fit exactly how i imagined them but now when im driving as i let off the gas i hear a grinding from underneath... i have a good idea what this is from digging around and researching but i was hoping someone can give me clear cut good advice. so i suppose i need a slip yoke eliminator?.. and it seems the simple fix of lowering the transfer case is a stupid idea. im sure a lot of you have been through this... what kind of SYE should i get?.. is it dangerous for me to drive the jeep this week without it? is there anything else id have to get along with the SYE? about how long does this installation take? any advice is much appreciated... thanks!

Depending on who you ask, people will say a trans case drop is a temporary fix. But if you don't plan on wheeling hard you should be ok. Will definitely be your cheapest option. Next would be a sye. Either hack n tap or a full kit. Hnt will be the cheaper of the two. Google all 3 options and see which best suits your rig and your budget

I just did a 3" on mine and have the same thing going on. I've been driving for 2 days. Just taking it easy until I find out for sure. Someone told me to check the u joints. I haven't yet because there's snow on the ground again

You should be fine with a transfer case drop and consider changing the pinion angle. That all i did with my rc 4.5".

I have a 4.5 lift on mine and installed a sye kit and that noise went away and ordered a custom driveshaft so im guessing its the same as mine a sye kit would help

Mine drove okay at stock. Once lifted I changed axle u joints, tie rod and tie rod ends. Changed wheel hubs. Found mine weren't worn but the were rusty, making them loud. All is pretty good now.

I'm thinking about doing iron rock offroads hack and tap. I think it's only $100. And I'm not doing any major off roading

There is a stamped disc on rear of case with the model number. It will either be 231 or 242. And you will need to know if it has a 'long tail-cone' or short.
The following link for Hack-N-Tap shows the tailcone. You will need the drillbits and tap, and I suggest the drill jig also.
Then install a stock front driveshaft. Iron Rock has great tech help too.

I would change the u joints first before going all out on a sye.. its cheap and easy and solved my vibes with my 3" and if that doesn't solve it then go for the sye or tc drop

I'm curious about the noise you're hearing when you lift off the gas. Does it sound like something is rubbing on the lugs of your rear tire or is it a more metallic sound you're hearing? Not saying that's what is happening, just curious if it sounds like that.

I also wanted to hear another description of your noise. I have a slight "thunk" that happens when I feather the gas pedal as well. Almost sounds like the slip yoke sliding in and out, like the driveshaft is too short and is moving around. Does this sound like your problem?

On my 2000 I didn't hear it as much last night after work but I just got in and driving. Now it's constant but worse when I let off the gas. After driving 10 minutes or the fact I just made a left turn the noise stopped even when I lift off the gas. Weird... Any thoughts?

It's more of a growling not so much metallic noise. And it sounds like it's coming from my t case
