Default Junkyard PDC

Wondering if there is anything to really go wrong with a PDC from a junkyard? Or if there is an easy way to test them. Is it worth pulling one out if a junkyard or I am I just asking for more trouble? Mine has an ear broken off where the main goes down to the alternator. Looks like the PO did a little funny business there. That cable just kind of hangs there. Going to be ordering a kit from 5-90 but want to get a plan sorted out first just in case this is going to cost me more than I think. Here is a pic.

1 more question if I decide to go with the 136a alternator will the 4 gauge be enough or should I get the 1. Right now there is nothing much in the works for an upgrade outside of upgrading the factory lights.

I have never seen two studs on the PDC. Look like someone added it

Think it would be fine of I did away with the link and just bolted the lead for the alternator (left stud) directly with the stud on the right. I believe that's how my friends xj is but I'm not positive of the top of my head.

Thanks. I believe the PO ran a lot of aftermarket stuff so I keep running into his shade tree "upgrades" all over the place. Pretty annoying.
