I really dont know much about lifting cars but, i have lowered cars before. I know that when lowering a car you can just do springs. So my question is if i where to just by like a 4 inch lift springs and rear 3.5 inch leaf springs and possibly new control arms (although i cant find just the control arms) would it be possible to lift my jeep for a lot less then a full lift kit and still have a perfectly functioning lasting lift? Because i really cant afford the full rough country lift and i need to lift the jeep because i really hate how low it sits, If this lift Idea i have wont work im considering selling the jeep (that i really dont want to do) and going back to a JDM Civic. So please help me with ideas and if you know where i can get 4inch leafs and 4inch springs because all i found was 3.5 Thanks Guys

im sorry I cant help you because you said "considering selling jeep and going back to a civic".....
other than that look at my build thread in sig for all the parts separately and cheap, after I paid $120 for rc coils I found some on clist for $80....
you realize that leaf pack is sold individually and shipping is gonna be another $50+?

you said JDM civic LOLLLLLLL
at one time in my life, I was a large part of the import scene, mainly hondas. If you cannot afford a rough country lift, there will be nothing about the civic you buy off craigslist, that is JDM. Except the fake ebay parts that are branded jdm, that some ricer (maybe you) puts on it. Actual JDM parts (SIR ECT) fetch a pretty everywhere, not just racewars.
When modding a vehicle, you can do it ****ty and cheaply, or you can do it right and spend a little more.
So as far as lowering a car with just springs, sure if you are a hack you would do it that way. However the proper way to do it would be control arms with adjustable camber plates, the proper springs and shocks etc.
Same goes for lifting a jeep, you could throw in shackles and coil spacer and add a leafs, and achieve a lift, or you could do it right. Considering you called it a car, I'd assume you are mostly a pavement pounder. That being said, you'll want to avoid 3'' of lift, and stick with 2'' of lift, because its much, much cheaper.
2'' of lift essentially, you need either extended shackles, or a 2 - 2.5'' leaf pack, and either ****ty coil spacers, or 2 - 2.5'' coil springs. Extended shocks are reccomended.
for 3 - 4'' of lift.
3'' lift, youll more than likely need a transfer case drop or a sye (unless you like vibrations) extended brake lines. an adjustable trac bar along with your springs and shocks
anything over 3'' of lift, youll need everything i mentioned above, and youll also want to start looking into adjustable control arms.
Come back with a budget of exactly how much you want to spend, and if you will be doing your own work or not. Also what tire size you intend to be running + a description of the terrain at the mall you will be frequenting most.
Then I can point you to exactly what you need for the price.

@ blacksmith i got enough money its just my car has 170k (super clean though) but i don't want to waste a lot of money so my budget is around 500-600 i would like to do three inch lift (shocks, springs and an s-10 bastard pack) as far as usage i would like to go to the cliffs off road park a few times but mainly i just want to sit higher i don't like how low a stock Cherokee is. For tires i want 31s eventually but i just bought new 225/75-15 wranglers so i would just keep those till i find some good used 31s. I have been reading alot or reviews and is a 3inch lift really a noticeable height difference? And why i would go back to JDM is because i buy and sell car and i just got a nice JDM 97 ex coupe (neuspeed springs, 99 conversion, skunk 2 shifter and more) all i need to do is upgrade suspension and i can get back to autocross.

Ok, stop calling your jeep a car and JDM means Japanese Domestic Market, or imported from Japan. So a nicely tuned AMERICAN civic is just another rice burner for me to run over. Please don't run your mouth without knowing what you're talking about. Oh, and welcome to the JEEP world
Come on guys he is asking about his jeep not a civic. Don't bash someone because of what car they drive. Even if they call it something different than you call it. That is not the debate and you are not being helpful to him what so ever. To answer you question your best bet is to get some adjustable control arms. If I were you I don't think I would go with 4.5" of lift because you have to spend more money on other parts such as longer brake lines, adjustable track bar, more than likely sye(or t-case drop if you can get away with it) etc. I think your best bet would be go with a cheaper beginner 3" lift kit such as this one with full packs:
http://roughcountry.com/jeep_xj_3.html
I would not go any higher than 3" because then you will have to get control arms etc.

Alright, folks, this thread has run its course. Its locked.
OP, links have been provided, if you have further questions please start another thread in the appropriate section. And some friendly advise, don't threaten to sell your XJ for anything and assume you will not catch hell. This is, after all, a Cherokee forum. We like Cherokees, and love helping those willing to learn and grow overall.
The rest of you, keep in mind we all started somewhere with cars, so try and be respectful of those who aren't as knowledgeable about the XJ platform or off roading overall. We also shouldn't look down on anyone for anything else they drive.
