just saw your build thread. in addition to what you said. you are running some wide wheels, putting a lot of rotating mass far from the hub. all that weight being tossed around combined with the sloppy/flexy stock steering at some intense angles is likely part of your problem. that steering is designed to handle much less weight situated much closer to the hub. at less intense angles.

I did just the ZJ steering, drop pitman arm, and did a power steering fluid cooler(My fluid was boiling over) and it made a hugh improvement over the stock steering system. I am trying to find a Durango steering box now to install and I believe that it will improve even more, all for under $250.00 and a little time to install all the new parts, I am not even worried about the steering anymore!!

I had all the same symtoms you are having and just these few items changed everything the moment I got on the road after upgrading. Can't wait to get the durango bow installed!!

Oh, I am running 6.5" of lift on a '95 XJ with 33X12.5X15 MTZ's, using it as a DD and drove it for a year before doing these upgrades. Once I did the ZJ steering, drop pitman arm, and the steering fluid cooler I thought I was in a different vehicle!! Now I cruise at 70 on the highway instead of 55-60 and feel 100% safe-er!!!
This might be fine for you and is not the same case since you guys are running at 2 different lift heights. You're at 6.5 he's a 8 inch. While I agree that upgrades should be done to the steering system, a steering box (unless it has play in it) will do nothing for him going straight. A drop pitman arm should be used if the trackbar bracket has been extended lower to keep the steering angles in alignment. It shouldn't be used alone. As far as the ZJ steering set up is concerned, while I agree with the added strength of the tie rod itself, you still have the dinky tie rod ends which become the week point of the steering. Which is why the after market "fancy" complete set ups are produced.

First off thanks for the help. Ok I just took a look at my steering again and I think you guys located my problem. The drag link is not parallel to my trac bar. Drag link needs to be upgraded really like you guys said. And I havent messed with the caster yet.

Ive got all of the steering components from my brothers WJ. Will it fit right up?

I am going to do a full width axle swap. Just hard to find a specific front D44 that I am looking for. Ive already got a D60 rear.
