Issues with Crank Trigger
Hello everyone I'm looking to see if anyone has had any issues with an aftermarket crank trigger?
I've decide to change out my existing ECU and install an aftermarket but I'm a little concerned that if I install a new crank trigger it may get damaged or say it fills up with mud etc.
I know I can build a bolt on plate under the jeep to keep damage to a minimal but still concerned about all the other elements doing a number on it.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Be Well,
Skidda

Are you referring to the CPS, crank position sensor, that is mounted on the bell housing? Or the camshaft sensor?

The trigger wheel would get bolted to the harmonic balance or pulley mounted to the crankshaft on the front of the engine., then you'd mount the sensor on the block. There are many variations of a timing trigger wheel i.e. 36 teeth, 60 teeth etc. and I'm wondering if anyone has a crankshaft mounted wheel and sensor and if they have any problems with mud, rocks or any other off road elements.
Thx!

Whats the objective of the aftermarket ECU.
What aftermarket ECU would connect to the existing harness without a plug and play capability?
Would you rewire the connections?
If not plug and play would you reprogram the engine management parameters.
Would your new crank trigger require a new flex plate for the trigger to reference?
Could your new trigger not mount in the stock location, relatively well protected.
If you had to create a new mounting, why not up at or near stock location, why mount in a vulnerable location requiring additional fab to protect?
Are you just trolling for responses or do you have a real project here in development?

This is my project vehicle, 1999 XJ. Using the existing sensor is not a problem just a little wiring and as far as a front mounted trigger I was just asking to see if anyone has installed one and the problems they have if any. I am installing an individual throttle body system and a Megasquirt ECU to control it.
I have not decided if the control system will run just the fuel system or ignition as well. Cost is not a major issue but do I want the headache of setting it all up, let's face it nothing is "plug & play".
