Default I could use some help.

I installed an sye kit in my np 231 transfercase today. I had it in 2wd when I did the install and now I can't shift to 4wd. If I try to do it while moving it grinds right away and sitting still it doesn't seem to want to go either. As far as 4 lo it won't even come close to that. So where did I go wrong? And I'm guessing I'm taking it all apart again?

Are you shifting trans to neutral when you try to shift to 4x4? Try adjusting the linkage (or try just shifting into 4x4 directly at tcase) to see if you can get it to move at all.

Did you follow the directions with the SYE you installed as to where the shifter placement? Other than that most times it is a linkage issue due to a lift causing engagement problems, or worn out of adjustment.

Everything shifted fine before I installed it. I followed the instructions but they were a bit vague. I removed the linkage and it still won't shift. I never took the transfer case out of the jeep to do the install. I think I put it all back together right. It's a 98 so I never cut the shaft on the fork. Could that be the problem?

Update. I have no idea why but everything is working great. I took it for a ride today and tried shifting into 4wd and everything worked smooth as can be. I don't have a clue as to why but I am happy as hell. Thanks for the help fellas

Ok new problem now. I had a small leak from the front output on the transfer case. After replacing the seal and fixing the leak I now can't shift on the fly without a small grinding noise. It shifts fine when sitting still. 4h and 4lo without issue. Anyone have any ideas as to why?
