The piston mfg calls for a 40% increase in the top ring gap. Pretty self explanatory....the manual i have for my 98 gives a range of .009 to .024.. do i add 40% to the .009. Or the .024. Or do i pick a midpoint and increase that by 40%..my gap right now is .017...thanks

My general rule of thumb is bore diameter x .0035" to get gap for a low HP naturally aspirated engine.
What are the rings made out of?
