No because your 98 XJ already has a HP30 !

Now if you are asking if it is worth upgrading, Yes it is. The D30 is a decent axle Truss it, Brace the inner C's add HD lower arm mounts and some Chromoly shafts with a Full case locker and it'll hold 35's and abuse all day long

I've see. Build D30's hold up to 35's and heavy throttle And abuse. I may build my current axles. Depending on what direction I go with on my Xj

I run 35's and beat it pretty hard. Finally broke it though believe broken ball joints started the problem though. Broke my chromolies. We were dragging that big rock around all day in my yard and playing on it

looks like a failed lower ball joint started your problem

hp30 is a good enough axle. Depends on what you're comparing it to. Did you have any swap options in mind? Typically for 35" tires max, people choose to keep the D30 because its easy and holds up well enough
