I'm trying to find an efficient way to get the inside lights to stay off when i take the doors off my 99 xj. I pulled the fuze but then my guages dont work. Any savy xj owner advice would be much appreciated. I thought about putting a switch in but hoping there is a much simpler solution.

I did that last time but doesnt that still make the dome light hot even if theres no bulb in?

under this plastic trims there's a connector for the door dome light. if you take off the hood latch plastic trim the connector should be right along there, disconnect it. it should be a two wires connector yellow and blue wires i think. do same thing on the passenger side.

Take a 9/16 socket and unscrew the door switches on the frame above the hold back limiter, unplug switch and push wires back in, not all the way cause they're a pain to get to if you do. Repeat on the other side. I keep mine in my glove box just in case I want them back in. A lot easier than taking other stuff apart since they're already exposed.

On my Wrangler YJ I put a toggle switch in line on one of the 2 wires to the door switch.
Then when I took the doors off just flip the toggle switch to deactivate the interior lights.
