Default How do you remover the dash?

Hi, I've got a 1996 cherokee SE the PO painted the top of the dash black but its shiny and you can see it in the windshield when its sunny out so I want to remove it and paint it flat black so it's not shiny. But I can't figure out how to remove it? Any ideas?

Thanks

Your best best is to get a dashboard cover. It is a lot of work to take it out.

It's not difficult just time consuming. There's bolts across the top of the dash and two big bolts under the dash on either side plus the hood latch cable and the bottom support. Remove the console first.

I'd sure suggest replacing the dash back to factory. If you're just painting it then mask everything off and paint it.

I believe there is a write up for dash removal. It's definitely not a quick process. I agree with everything low range said.

If you gonna take the dash out I would take a close look at your heater core and ac evaporator. This is NOT a job you wanna do TWICE.

Hmmm okay, I was planing on painting it he has the rest of the interor black and red. I guess masking everythiing off and painting is my best bet.

Hate to get off topic BUT if you ever want your ac too work I'm almost 100% certain youll need that replaced, very common ac woe.. I replaced my compressor only to realize I need a evaporator core. Talk about pissed

All I'm sayin is consider it while its out. There's a write up about dash removed here somewhere, it's a TON of work...

IMO too much work just to paint a dash, ill tell you that much... Just one of those things I found out the hard way.

It is a pain disconnecting the connectors and the heater controls. Plus considering the age XJ connectors get brittle and you are guaranteed to break at least one electrical connector.

Simple to apply and you can color match and no glare.

I vote dash cover unless you have a friend who does windshields, have the windshield pulled the maybe tape off and paint it in place?

if you're savvy with painters tape you could paint it without pulling it pretty easily.
