So you're in my territory? Ok, look up freegdr in the members list or in South Florida Dysfunctional 4x4 thread. 2dr Xj, 4.0L, 5spd, 14" lift, 40" Ground Hogs on the D30 axle and 8.25" rear axle. So whoever says the 4.0 can't turn those tires is WRONG. Its all about the proper gearing.

8"s of lift plus lift from axles/mounting points. Guy uses it in Alaska for mud and muddy trails.
Uses stock motor and guy has plenty enough power for turning em.
Cherokee forum is wrong place for this kind of questions, everyone on here will say can't be done or totally waste and pointless. I spent $4000 going from 3 up to a 3.5inch blah blah blah, and if you don't do it like me then it's not safe or worth doing till you save up the money to buy all the best parts lol.
Naxja or jeep forum is where I found this guys build. Pirate4x4 is another forum to check out.

You're welcome anytime man. I used to build swamp/hunting buggies with 23.1-26 tires. Thought about taking an old 86 LWB Mj I got and building a mini-monster/mudbogger out of it but would use a set odf 16.5-16.1's (44" x 42" roughly) instead.

what are you going to be doing? Mudding or rock crawling? if your crawling then you can run a damn kia soul motor and still have enough power to turn 49's if your gearing is set up. i know a guy with a sammi on 49's and crawls just fine
rockwell axles have 6.72:1, so running those, with a atlas or a 203/205 doubler you can pretty much run anything you want. youll also be heavier then your mother inlaw, so yea....
