Hot to guide to weld up D35?
I have never welded spider gears before. However I have welded everything from trailers to combines.
Does any one have a how to guide to weld up a d35? My project jeep "RED" is just a off road toy. No street running. It's on 31's. I would like to build a LCOG Jeep. No lift. With future plans off stuffing 33's. |
Why don't you find a nice 8.25 to slap in there and buy a mini-spool?
If you're set on not spending a dime then grab yourself some 1/2" nuts, stick them between the spider gears and weld the whole thing into a solid ball. Don't catch the oil on fire and don't blow yourself up welding under the gas tank. I would suggest removing the carrier to do this. If you must. |
I do have a two other 8.25's. However that plan will be for the future if needed. I would like to do the D35 as I have never done this before. More of a learning experience than anything. If the 35 ever messes up I can put in the 8.25 at that time. This is off rod XJ only. My other xj's are for the road.

Weld spider to spider and spider to case all the way around. Not just small welds between the spiders. My 60 looks like a soft ball is stuffed in it but if I break a shaft I don't have to fish out a c-clip to swap a shaft, so leave room to take them and the center pin out. |

You won't find a spool for the 8.25 because of the c-clips.

Maybe if someone had some pics of where they put the weld and heat. |
Welding the spider gears isn't a horrible idea....
However doing it on a D35 isn't that smart, esp if you have larger tires.... |
I hope you don't plan on driving on the road much after.

Heres a good example of welded spiders.
You can find a ton of results if you google "welded spiders" and hit images. |

See how many people weld and DD their rig. If you don't drive like a knob its not bad. |
If it's a DD expect chopped tires and accelerated wear.

That is what I was looking for. I was wondering how to protect from weld splatter. Aluminum foil, another use.. |
