Default Hot console.

I was wondering if anyone had this problem. When I drive any distance, even short ones, my center console area gets very hot. Probably an easy fix but I don't know too much about my vehicle yet. Thank you in advance. I have a 97 Cherokee

My floor would get so hot in the summer, my feet would sweat. Hood vents helped a lot. You probably do need to check the tranny with your heat being back so far.

How hot?? As above is the floor also hot or just the console. Heater has a duct thru the center console to feed the rear seat area, is that where the heat is comin from??
Don't ignore the original advice and check your underside for hot cat, heat sheild problem, hot floor etc.

Nothing smells burnt but the part where the park, neutral, drive thing is(having a mind blank on what it's called lol) on the sides of that is where its hot. It sometimes burns my leg. Yes I do have carpet and I've never checked the tranny before so what exactly do you do for that. Sorry if that sounds stupid to ask. I'm for sure a noob. It's actually my boyfriends jeep and I'm starting to learn everything about it so I can love on it while he goes to the army (: thank all of you guys for the fast responses!

there is a dipstick in the center of the engine bay back toward the firewall - closest to the front seats. It has a pic of a gear on it, thats how you check the tranny fluid. make sure you have the right level of fluid in there. also smell the fluid for a burnt odor. Maybe get your bf to help the first time you do some of this stuff.

last but not least, thank you BOTH for your service to our country.

Start the engine and let it idle with the transmission in neutral and the e brake on so you dont roll away lol... Check the fluid like that and on one side of the dipstick it will say hot idle and the other side will say cold idle. Check the fluid level at warm idle and add fluid as needed... Also smell it to see it it smells burnt at all.

Thank you both again
