I am also looking into this issue with the stock lighting being horrible. I want to upgrade and i do wish there was a sticky on the issue. I see people all the time in socal with blinding headlights and i get furious from their stupidity. Thanks Cruiser54 for your post. Helps out a lot.

If you do it right, you won't regret it! I did and it's such a safer night driving experience. I don't get flashed, and I'm not scared a deer will jump out in front of me. You can even buy used projectors (OEM only my recommendation) and the get the new www.theretrofitsource.com elite HID kit (bulbs, ballasts, harness, up to 6000K color, slight blue-but still great light output).

The damn internet police are quick huh? Lol.

The Morimoto Mini's are really easy to retrofit, but I would honestly say just buy the kit made by Froelich (sp?). Very cheap for what they are, and it's very time consuming to do it yourself.

^I don't remember who said this, but HID's are not illegal, if properly set up, my mom's lexus has factory HID's, and they don't blind you at all. If you don't do them right, then expect to be pulled over!

Factory hids are legal,But some states have laws about adding them to anything that didn't have them factory is illegal.Or if they are not DOT approved they are illegal also.

Andrewmp6 is right. Most states try to make laws like that because of the people that put the 12k eBay 'Offroad only' kits on the street. No one was saying HID's are illegal. Anyway, if your state says they are (retrofitting) or not-let's leave the law enforcement to the pro's and keep this Internet policing of DOT laws to the experts m-kay. If someone is going to be a d-bag and do it, there is nothing we can do to stop them. If you don't want them to and want to offer advice-I hear you catch more flys with honey anyways....
