Help me with a lift decision please...
I have an 01, did BB with 2" spacers and shackles. Ran a few times now upgrading to bastard packs and just got in 3" Rustys coils in the mail today. I was content with that...but then today a Buddy offered me a 4.5" Rustys (leaf pack, shocks, coils, trac, and LCAs. I would have to sell or return the 3" I have and would prob need bigger tires and more off set rims (30s on 7" currently). It was only run for about 5000 miles before he traded and the dealer wanted it off. I was trying to be sensible. I know its up to me just looking for some fellow XJers input. thanks

3" work well with 31's which are cheaper and you can get by with stock gears and stock sye, stock drive shaft, etc.
4.5" you'll need bigger more expensive tires 32's or 33's, regearing isn't mandatory but highly recommended If you go wheeling a lot. You'll need an upgraded drive shaft and sye, or at least a tcase drop.
Again, if you have the money for all that go with the 4.5 if you don't stick with the 3"

You can run your 30s for a while while you save for larger tires. It'll look weird but you'll be alright for a bit. You'll also need swaybar links for the front. you might need a tcase drop or an sye at 4.5" though. Tcase drop is super cheap but just a band aid. I was going to do 3" but got a killer deal on a parts jeep with 4.5" and I'm super glad I went this route.
