Default Which header?

Ok guys my stock exhaust manifold has a crack in it about 1" above the lower flange. What would you guys do? go through the work of pulling it, welding it and reinstalling it? or buy an aftermarket header? if so which one? Thanks! Also which aftermarket one would be the cheapest but yet good.

Never tried that one...but DO NOT buy the $150 dollar ones off of there, they do not fit...i ended up going to the u-pull-it and pulling one off another jeep.

x2, they have a no questions asked warranty when I accidentally mess up the header. They sent another one with paid shipping to return the damage one to them all for free and within a few days.

Is this from personal experience or did you just hear it somewhere?

If you are gonna spend the money on the Banks one then look into this one that Desert Rat linked...I was going to get the Banks but I am now, after doing my homework, getting the APN exhaust manifold.

i believe APN is made by little china men, i like to support america whan i can. could be wrong tho, just read that is was imported. anyways i called banks mfg and i think it was $450 after it was all said and done. came with their exhaust/intake gasket, 2 new collector bolts and exhaust gasket. here is a link for 425 with free shipping http://www.autoanything.com/exhausts...0A2607681.aspx

APN header: not close to equal length tubes that are supose to help with exhaust scavaging, and has a Limited lifetime warranty.... probly not a bad header but i prefer the design, warranty and sound of Banks. havent heard any clips of the apn header to see if it does peform like the torque tube

Banks Torque tube: close to equal length tubes. PITA to get the lower center bolt started but sounds and performs great. LIFETIME warranty agains defects

sound clip, Banks torque tube, 2.5" exhasut with flowmaster super 40 and cut off past the axle due to xj tank.

From my experience. All the manifolds for the XJ are a POS. The OEM header has last the longest out of 3 4.0l XJ's I've ever had. And the expense of a Banks or the Edelbrock (what I have now) seems so expensive.
If you do get a after market header. Have the welds gone over again. Also have a muffler shop add 2 additional hangers to the exhaust.
And while you have it torn apart. Check the condition of your motor mounts. If they are worn out. That'll help premature your manifold. I've done it 3 different times.
And motor mounts are just lovely to replace.

I have heard good things about the APN header, far as I have heard they dont have a big issue with cracking.

the banks header, on the other hand has big problems with cracking. Also, the report that the tubes are near equal length is pretty far off. No need to measure even really, just look at it for a second and its clear
