I was out at a jeep get together and i saw a few guys running a setup similar to this kit http://www.ironrockoffroad.com/Merch...egory_Code=PFX they weren't fixed length and the one upper control arm wasn't welded on to the lower it had a heim joint that went to a bracket that was on the lower control arm. They called it a 3 link setup i would just like more info on how to build it if any one has.

What you described isn't a 3 link but a radius arm. RE, RC, Clayton, Rock Krawler and lots of others make these in kit form.

 

They call it a 3 link because they are running only 1 upper arm. Iron rock also advertises it that way but this is 100% wrong. This is a Y Link, a form of modified radius arms setups. A true 3 link has many more advantages. I only know of a couple companies that make a true 3 link specifically for the XJ. Rock krawler and me at Froehlich Suspension Tech.

 

In my opinion its junk. While the basic design can be built ok and work fine, Iron rock pulled it off so they can be cheap. The way they did it makes it weaker than most longarm setups. They advertise it as a 3 link to sell more kits. Like leadfoot said, its just a modified radius arm setup.




clayton makes a nice 3 link setup as well.

If you have to ask that you are in over your head. What design are you building? 3 link? 4 link? Radius arm? Wristed radius arm?

Generally you figure out where you are going to put your link mounts, then you build the arms long enough based on that. Joint and bushing choice also depends on what kind of setup you are going with. There is really a lot more to tackle than how long the arms are and what you are going to need to pull it off safely.

 

I will probably go with a radius arm its my dd but my weekend wheeler I don't go mudding I'm kinda new that's why I'm asking questions I wanna do it right the first time I have skyjacker 4.5" coils that will go on when I do the build

Save yourself the time and just buy some, I have heard good reviews about these http://www.seriousoffroadproducts.co...4-7.5-S-A-Lift and you only have the coils? What are your plans for the rest of the suspension?

 

I have new shocks and links I'm going to make them in to disconnects if I had a large bank account I would just go buy a kit

 

What I put there is just the long arms, not a lift kit itself. You will also need 3.5" leaf springs, 1" shackles, adj track bar, longer brake lines, and maybe a sye

 

if your asking me, no impact, no idea..
