I was just wondering if you guys that bolt on additional quarter panels such as flat tube style fenders or rear quarter panel armor, etc prep the body or paint it in someway.
I ask because It seems that it would be a great place to breed rust since it will trap moisture/water between the body and the new panels being bolted over top.
Do you guys paint or seal the body part that's covered somehow? Do you caulk the joints around the panel edges?
I am going to be installing jeeptubes front fenders and would like to be proactive in preventing any possible rusting out sine I will be bolting them on.
thanks

Mine are mounted with about 16 Jacknut's and I just take them off and clean every thing every once and awhile. Off and on only takes about two minutes with a cordless and an alan wrench bit. Wax fender real heavy and painted the inside plate with semi gloss and truck bed coating. When I just was it I run the water right down in there and flush the junk out. If I worry it wouldn't dry I guess I could use an air hose to help blow dry it but I don't.

On mine I cleaned and waxed the fender before installing them and I also completely sealed them with a basic silicone them I bolted mine on with stainless 1/4" bolts. My quarter panel armor is double powder coated so it is pretty resistant to rust.

I thought about sealing them like this though as well until I was too scared water might be trapped
Thanks for the compliment, but I built them myself. And about sealing them up. I think you stand a better chance sealing the water in than out. Even water in the form of condensation might appear in there and not be able to breath and dry. Water tight is next to impossible unless the entire back of the plate is covered with a solid adhesive, even then I don't see it.
