I am and always have been easily distracted by shiney objects. I've put sweet LEDs in my dash lights and I love them. I'll probably get some LED light bars here before too long and I'm sure I'll love them too. I wanted to put in LED headlights, but I couldn't afford them.

In short, I like LEDs.

A lot.

As such, I think this looks freakin' COOL. I wouldn't feel the least bit bad if some "hardcore" dudes felt the need to call it "rice" (oooooooh, burn!) either. Don't like 'em? Don't put 'em on your jeep. It's pretty simple.

Not saying you need to be a fan of the underlighting aesthetic, but seriously, if you don't think colored LEDs are cool then there is something seriously wrong with you. I mean, as a human being. LEDs are awesome and adding them to things automatically makes those things awesome too.

 

LED headlights and tail lights are cool. An underbody kit? Not cool. If you're going to have rock lights, at least get something you can see. This is my opinion. I will never put that crap on my Jeep.

Colored LED's must be the new hipster thing. Or kid thing.

 

Never thought about it till Serious pointed it out but they could be useful for off road at times (clear not colored ones). My biggest worry would be keeping them from getting broken in heavy brush or by running over small trees and such. Where we go there are not always trails as such on private ground.


Any ideas on how to keep them from not getting broken, such as mounting places?


As far as using them on a DD on the street

 

I run blue LEDs for all my interior lighting in my car, two strips for the for wells, and LED DRLs and reverse lights(both bright white). I love LEDs, I'll have some in my jeep for the interior. I don't bash anyone for what they do. If you like it rock it. If you don't then don't put it on your rig. Will I put colored LEDs under my jeep? Hell NO! But that's me. I like that you kept it all the same and not a strobing mess of rainbows.

 

You can put them high in the fender for the front. The back you just gotta hope nothing breaks them. Though most I've seen have the LED in some kind of epoxy or acrylic so I'd assume they hard to break. But yeah I can see them being usefull for night crawling, but maybe in amber or white. Some RGBs would be sick. Usefull light for wheeling, random colors for shows and parades

 

 

I think red would have been more useful, not screw up your night vision. But either way cops can give you problems.

But Im going to be doing white, mostly for ambient light while camping to set up my tent late at night, or for late night wrenching sessions.

 

in my state you can have any color auxiliary lights except blue and red. So green is perfectly legal. Will get the cops attention and make it more likely to get pulled over, but not illegal.

I love mine, and they've proven their usefulness. had to do a head gasket in my friend's driveway late at night, and lighting wasn't the greatest. to make things easier, we laid out all the tools under one side of the jeep and all the parts under the other side. the "ricey" underglow made it easy to find whatever it was that we were looking for.

 

Blue-green similar to Uber's is also a wavelength with a very low impact on night vision (507 nm to be precise), but the human eye doesn't seen finer details under that light very well. Red would be the better choice in that case. If I really wanted them for use on nighttime trails, I'd use red. They'd only be getting used off-road, so the laws wouldn't matter. Underbody lights should be illegal on the road no matter what color they are.

I can support them as a tool for nighttime trails. Anything else is quite silly and tasteless to me.

I don't see how anyone can argue they're not useful personally. I'm no hardcore wheeler but have been under my jeep on the logging trails I run plenty of times, and the lights made all the difference. Even if you're just in the driveway wrenching they're useful. I have these:

one pointing at the front axle and one above the rear axle pointing towards the front. My whole driveline is lit plus some. There's cheaper options but I have no doubt these can take a beating from rocks/water/whatever more than the other options.

My brother actually has green cyclops rock lights (also olympus) in each wheel well. Wouldn't have been my first choice of color but they look cool and are still very bright. Bright enough for him to wheel and keep an eye on terrain.

 

Yes, the guy put his mod out there for people to comment on. And it's one thing to say you do or don't like it, but to call him an attention *****? You've got an entire build thread which you link in your sig... Pot calling the kettle black much?


I have a build thread too. Why? Because I wanna show people what I do to my Jeep.


I'm just trying to point out that someone posting a picture of their modification on a forum section specifically geared toward modifications isn't an attention *****. Maybe try not to flame a guy for showing something he did to his own Jeep that you wouldn't do to yours.

 

It's one thing to have rock lights, I can see the need for those. But dim colored lights that have no use other than the owner to point them out and smile? You can't help but comment on them.
