I want to run a new muffler on my new 98 Cherokee. I used to have alied on my old Dakota and it sounded pretty good. I was just gonna do a flowmaster then I read on possibly this site, that they were pretty restrictive for performance mufflers.

Ive been researching like crazy, if you think it will bring MPGs down then forget it, but if you can give me a few to research I will.

nice throaty sound but not the over ear buzzing bass in the cab. No loss in MPG. I can explain that more but I don't want to write a book unless you ask, I'm wiped lol.

I just saw someone had posted flow rates for most of the popular muffs and flowmaster was fairly low. However I have not heard the others. Keep in mind Im in CA

Thanks guys.

I run a flowmaster 50 series. Good sound and no drone at higher speeds.

Can't suggest a THRUSH muffler. Of course mine is catless. Probably replace with a magnaflow.

Keep the tail pipe or else it will throw a lot of annoying bass in the cab.
Been there done that lol

you mean just keep the stock pipe, or at least have some sort of pipe at the tail?

For the guys who mentioned flowmaster again, I saw someone say they lost MPG with it, dosnt make sense to me however like I said it showed a list of flow rates and it wasnt one of the best. I always liked them but dont want to jump the gun and get one and be like that poor lad lol.

My 98, with 58K miles, has a Magnaflow 50 (18") which does a good job keeping the noise down, yet is more free flowing than stock.

Adding a 2.5" mandrel bent back pipe next week...

I run a standard cherry bomb and at lower RPM's sounds quiet, but gets real loud at higher ones. And not much flows better than a glasspack lol.

Some sort of tail pipe that carries it past your rear bumper so the sound escapes and your undercarriage isn't like a sound collector. However the stock TP like I use has bends and cube which actually makes the overall length longer and reduces noise. I get 15-17 mpg with a flowmaster super 40, 7.5 lift, 33 12.5 tires.

I've heard the cherry bomb pro is pretty quiet on the 4.0, idk though. Quiet's not really my thing Lift the carpet in the trunk and lay some dynomat down. Put it in the hatch and behind the plastic trim in the trunk.
