good aftermarket cam to get?
Hello everyone! I'm finishing up my renix to ho swap and would like to get a cam for it. Not looking for anything crazy. And also having trouble figuring out what to do with my rear brake lines because I also put a ford 8.8 in it out of a 01 explorer. It has disc brakes and not sure if somewhere sells like a conversion line set up to go from drum to disc. Hope y'all can help me out. Thanks

So you have swapped from a remix to an ho engine? What year is the engine? What is the main purpose of your jeep? That 232-4 comp cam listed is honestly a couple hundred dollar waste of money for a relatively low rpm engine. The only noticeable power you'll see from that cam over stock will be above 4k rpm.
Hopefully CobraMarty can chime in on this too. He has a lot of experience with the 4.0 and its power.

Yes I have and the engige is a 94. Its purpose is just offroad. Its not my daily. I want something that is gonna have a noticeable amount of power all the time. But nothing crazy in price

Cam, new lifters, possibly new length pushrods , new timing chain while you are in there, + have to pull the head to replace the lifters, and new valve springs for the higher lift, + labor. All $$$$. Maybe 10-15hp gain.
If you want to spend some money, get the Harland Sharp Roller Rockers and a bored TB.

Bingo ^. If you still have your mind set on replacing the cam, a stock 96-99 cam has pretty good low and midrange power and can be done much cheaper than a comp. But roller rockers are just so much easier since they are right under the valve cover.
No prob.. I keep up with that 4.6 super stroker coffeecommando has been fighting with lol

looks like stock rockers are 1.6 ratio, so you don't gain any valve lift running them. maybe a bit less resistance, but I can't see spending the money on them for that alone

A camshaft upgrade will only make your engine run lumpier and provide little performance if it is all you do. Camshaft upgrades are intended to be matched with other performance modifiers and for specific purposes in mind.
By the time one has done (or chosen) the other mods to the engine, they would know what they wanted from a camshaft upgrade and would not be asking 'what cam should I get?' without supplying us the other information we would need to know to answer the question. Basically, if one needed to ask the question 'what cam should I use?' suggests that they shouldn't be swapping the cam.
Put your money elsewhere.

This mild cam will idle smoothly and starts making more power from 1800 rpm to shift point 4850. 5-10hp throughout most rpm and +15 more torque throughout most rpm.
Yep a bored TB will give more power, 3-4 hp and extend rpm range.
Even a TB spacer adds 2-3 hp.
1.7:1 roller rockers will add 5-6hp and 10TQ and extend power beyond 4000 up to 4700rpm.
All the 'bolt-ons' you can think of will only add 15hp and 20tq max rear wheel numbers from stock.
Real power comes from Forced Induction. Even 5-6 pounds of boost will add +60hp and +70tq at the rear wheels.

Marty, I see your running 1.7 ratio rockers. who makes them? or did you use/modify ford or chevy rockers? Since the 4.0 has a decent cam profile I might add the rockers to let it breathe a little better. Im sure it would need stiffer springs as well.
Still surpised by the TB. I guess if it wasn't upgraded, it'd be the only weak link on the intake side. Definitely some impressive HP/TQ numbered you're getting out of a 4.0.
