gearing help
So I crawled under my jeep last night just out of shear curiosity to see which rear it had.( I nearly bought an 8 25 rear because I thought I had a d35) and lo and behold I do actually have an 8.25 problem is the gears are 3.07's . I was wondering if motive gear sells 3.55 sets for the front and rear or if there is another good manufacturer to replace my gearing with? Or would it be easier to find and take the gears out of another jeep?

Why is this a problem? Do you have different gears in front? Also if you were to replace the gears are you aware that it is not something you would be able to do. There is a LOT more to it than just putting the new gears in. If you really want to get Lower gearing. You would be best to just find a set (front and rear) out of an xj with 3.55 or 4.10. You can not just gear 1 axle different than the other or you will absolutely demolish your t case.

Oh no I understand this perfectly the reasoning is larger tire size and I know that it wouldn't b a 15 minute operation in my driveway lol but while shopping online it seems these ratios are a little harder to find. 3.73 would be to low. But I do know the depth of a swap like this but sadly I think (at least in my area) I can get both axels the Dana 30 and 8.25 as a set geared and all cheaper than an actual gear set

I'm pulling a set of 3.55 this week have 4.56's going in if your interested? There are in VG shape and I would make you a deal on them, in fact will have the box's that my 4.56's came in to ship in.

One thing to keep in mind though, why settle on 3.55's at this time? What size tire are you running or plan to run? If you plan to run a 32-33 I would save the money and wait till you get tires, then just buy 4.56's and new install kits. You will need a new diff case for the D30 as well for 3.73 and up.
Why drop the money on an R&P or axles for that matter if you are going to change them again in the near future. I don't know about you, but to me, differential work is annoying

Well since the op has a manual(most likely given the 3.07's) he could even try to find a set of 4.10 axles and that would be a great gear for bigger tires.

Sooooo what tire size do you plan to run, is there much towing involved, do you commute on the highway?

Yes mine is a manual lol I was considering going a hair lower for some lower end grunt because it will more than likely be towing a trailer for when I need wood. I would like to run 32s oh and I may hit you up op on those axels I'll hang on to your email if u can get rid of them don't go hangin on to them on my account. I was thinking 3.55 from the equation (old tire/new tire x new gear ratio)

4.0L AX-15 turning 32s with towing would be better suited for 4.10:1. 3.55:1 is numerically very close to the stock final drive ratio but you have a lot more rotating mass to deal with, and you're towing, so a bit deeper is an asset.
You can find 4.10:1 axles from XJs that had 2.5L gas engines.

Oh ok I'll look around for a 2.5 Cherokee then thank u for the help . When I swapped my 76 fords gears out it was easy and more cost effective I didn't know if that would be the case with my jeep though but my ford also had the 9inch rear. And I think I will go with 4:10s instead of the 3.55s thank u all for the advice it is very helpful

Regearing is expensive to do properly. Gears themselves cost a good chunk, and there's all the extra setup like shims and bearings, and tools and time to do it correctly. Plus the D30 needs a new carrier anyway to fit deeper gears. If you don't midn your investment exploding after a year then yeah you can do it pretty cheaply lol. If there's already an assembled option out there it makes much more financial sense.
