gearing with 31s
#32
Before I regeared I just left it in 3rd all the time. If I didn't tow with it I couldn't have justified spending the money for the regearing. But I'm glad I did. Try leaving it in 3rd gear for a week and see how it does. Before I regeared I couldn't let it go into overdrive unless I was doing 70, otherwise itwould just downshift back and forth all the time.

Just got another thought. I have some cooper discoverer 31s which are a much more road friendly tire compared to mickey thompson mtzs. Maybe i will run them a couple days this weeks and see if the power or gas mileage is positively affected.

Try running 32's and 307's!
Go to 410's then you can get bigger tires later too
Kinda sluggish?...lol
Like I said, I run 32 and 3.07 and its terrible.
Personally I'm waiting to save up and swap a F8.8 in 4.10 so I only have to re-gear the front.........sigh

i was running 32's on 3.07's on my current jeep and averaging 11-12mpg.
since i regeared to 4.10's the mileage is back up to 17mpg for my last full tank, and plenty of power in 5th gear

ive got a 5 speed with 3.07 also. its not bad on the highway just gotta keep it in 4th gear most of the time depending on the wind and how flat the highway is. not sure on my rpm since i have the se edition (no tac) if i was you just got some smaller tires for a dd then when you go roading put the bigger tires back on and put it in 4 lo i had been thinking about re gearing to 4.10s with my 30' tires but its just not worth it to me to spend that much money when it does good now while going up hills and what not would rather get a locker in the rear and call it good

It seems when you pass that 31 mark everything changes. My number one concern was my trasmission, so I installed a cooler on it. The bigger the tires the more stress on your tranny. When I bought my jeep the fluid was burnt. The AW4's must be pretty tough.
