Default Gas tank relocation?

I searched to all get out and can't find anything.

So we all know that the stock location is poor for offroading(gas tank)

What is even worse is raising it a foot. Sure it doesn't bang on rocks. But nothing like dragging 150lbs on the wrong side of the rear axle up all the break overs and through ditches. Then throwing it a foot higher just does not make sense. (performance wise)

It looks like the tank will fit right where the lower back seat goes?

Has anyone ever done this?

Thanks.

what, like where the back seat mounts?

why not just move it straight up?

You sure about asking him that question. Just look at the different threads this person has some before.

Yes.

And because moving 100+lbs over a foot higher does not add up to lcg.

My preferences.

have you thought about going up just a few inches and then back a few inches and making a good skid? IIRC I think I saw a half tuck on naxja then back a few inches to clear a rear stretch.

That is a good idea, but i think there is a support a few inches further back?

Don't know if it really matters or not?

I havent really looked around back there to be honest. but I know that people push it back a few inches. and if there is a support, cut it out and make a stronger custom one

ive noticed no ill-effects even with a full tank. the added ground clearence makes it completely worth it.

i dont see the factory gas tank fitting where the rear seat goes very nicely at all.

here's where I got that "half tuck" idea in my head. just make a frame and skid for it, set it in about half way and move it back for a stretch (something along those lines. you see what I'm getting at) you don't have to tuck the entire tank.

that was my basic idea for my eventual tuck/stretch. just ideas don't know if they're good ones

just convert to propane, a full propane tank isnt that heavy so you can put it anywhere.

Yea that may work. I will have to get under there again and see if i have room.

What brought this on was a break over i did today.. I should be able to crawl it. But i had to bump it. I could feel that the weight of the gas tank was showing my progress.

So i was hoping for an inexpensive mod to free up some rear hanging weight and keep the gas tank safe from damage.

I have been thinking of natural gas.

Although, you have to make adjustments.

1. 30% hp loss
2. Have to make a pump station at your house for availability.

those are the largest hurtles.

Still thinking about it though.

I am pretty sensitive to higher weight bias. I can feel the effects of my tank full vs empty.

The gas fitting does promote a problem. Since I don't want any fumes.

where are you getting 30%? over the years the dyno sheets ive seen show 10-15.

and i guess in your area propane must be harder to get, there are quite a few fill stations around here.
