Default Full size spare tire in the factory location?

Okay, first of all, I've searched google and I've searched the site.
I just got a full size spare and I'm making a trip to Oregon in 4 days. I will have my dog in the back and some other CRAP.
Is there a way to get the full size spare in the factory location?
Heres the specs:
97
Soundbar in the back.
31" tire.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I can't air the tire down or it is no good to me as I don't have OBA yet...
Every time I get it in there, the hatch is pinched and It won't open from the outside until I release the pressure on the back hatch by loosening the tire. I have two boys, so I can't push the seat forward and leave it unlocked.
Thanks...

i fit a 31 in the back of mine but i dont have the plastic panel on the tail gate and it was pretty tight to get it in there. i would just lay it down and put all your crap on top of it.

it was tight with my 30" spare also when had it in the back of mine before got a rear carrier. go get some thread from homedepot thats the same size and also a thread cuppling, think thats the name of it, so that way can connect them together and make the bolt long enough to tighten the spare in it factory locaiton

My 33 fit fine with a little adjustment to the mount with a piece of angle iron and a 35 will fit but the seat is about an inch from latching.

I have 245/75/16s on mine and the spare was a tight squeeze. I made a try at leaving it fully inflated, but it pushed the liftgate outward on the driver's side and the back seat didn't want to latch. Since I have a small compressor with me, I took one of my Stauns and aired it down to 15lbs, now the liftgate shuts fine and with a slight bit if convincing, the back seat latches fine. My research seemed to indicate that because of the soundbar and possibly the trim pieces, there seems to be less room on the 97-01 XJ's vs the 96- models.

The dog is a Great Dane.....she doesn't do a whole lot of running anymore.
