Fuel injector
I looked for this answer and could not find one. My noob question is why do you need to have a new FPR and new fuel rail to fit ford injectors on an 87-90 XJ? The injectors fit in, but are not utilized properly? I am just trying to understand because I have them, but not going to install if it is pointless with out them and will just get neon injectors. I have an 1988. Thanks in advance.

This is because the Ford injectors operate at a different pressure. I can't remember if they need more or less, just that it's different. If an injector operates at a lower pressure than stock, then the stock pressure will blast way too much fuel in. If it expects a higher pressure you'd run lean with very little fuel being supplied. So you change the Fuel Pressure Regulator out to deliver something closer to where the injector is supposed to run.
The Bosch 703/784s are much closer to the stock setup.
