Without winch and not beefy leaves out Hanson, ARB and Warn bumpers.

JCR are slim and you can customize it (2" receiver, lights, pre-runner, stinger, bull bar, etc). I read in some place that the tabs must be welded to the front and the back of the bumper to be strong enough for recovering. I don't know if JCR's are. I guess Brim311 can help with this info (and if is possible use the bumper with a Hi Lift).

The rear bumper without tire carrier is also pretty nice.

My only concern with JCR bumpers is parking. If I touch the front and rear car with that tabs I will leave a nice souvenir on them :-)

Bottom picture, you can see the Dring Tabs welded through the bumper and to the bumper mounts:

Yes you can, but anytime you use a Hi-lift, BE CAREFUL!

In the page says $373: http://www.jcroffroad.com/mm5/mercha..._Code=XJ-US-Dx

It looks awesome IMO. However I prefer the 'old fashioned' Stage 3. Too lazy to painting all

Brimy: thanks for the answer about the tabs and Hi Lift.

If you are like me, you don't want to build your own (thank you very much) and just want a nice bumper that will not make your front ugly, like most of these extreme ones do.

I actually went today to two large 4x4 stores to look at some. One of them even had an XJ one on the floor (very nice Rugged Ridge, which they don't seem to do anymore).

Since I am looking for one with winch and a small protective bar, I am a bit more limited than you are. I will also no order a bumper without seeing it up close in terms of fit and finish.

You can find nice simple ones on eBay, not too expensive. Some are even below $200.

I also learned today that the 'empire also know as 4Wheel drive Hardware' or 4 Wheel Parts, actually owns Smittybilt, ProComp, G2, Rubicon Express and a bunch of other well known product lines we think are independent. I was amazed...

The ultimate sliders have been available for around 6 weeks. We've sold around a dozen sets so far, with another batch just about sold out.

What is the purpose of the XJ Cherokee Steering Box Spacer and why would I need to add one to my bumper order??

The stock tie rod and drag link are made of weak thin wall tube. This upgrades are a lot beefy and stronger.

Here are some other links to see there are many upgrades:

The purpose of the spacer is to replace the one that is going to be corroded and break when you take out the power steering sector bolts to install the new bumper....or at least thats why I had to do mine.

Ok that makes sense. I eventually want to get a 6.5" lift and wont be doing any super serious wheeling until then. should I wait to upgrade my steering until I do that? I don't know enough about the upgrades to know if there are different sizes.

If I were you I'd wait until the upgrade. I have the stock and didn't have any problem so far. I don't do rock crawling, have just 2" spacers and don't any wild. In my plans is to install a 4.5 lift kit and in that moment upgrade also the stock steering.

I didn't know anything about this (and many other things) until I bought the Eric Zape's book. It's a good source of knowlege for someone like me that only knows to refill gas

The JCR Stuff I have seen is beefy but doesn't look overly beefy and obnoxious. It's well designed and well built.

I will be placing a size able JCR order here in a couple weeks. 2 bumpers and a set of skid plates. They have very nice designs and the workmanship is excellent. Plus they are in my hometown. It's tough not to support that! Well done JCR.
