He guys I'm trying to help out another keeper. He just lifted his 93 3" it is a procomp lift with aal and 3" spacers. He finds that when he gets up to highway speeds it gives him death wobble. He has had it aligned and installed a skyjacker adjustable trac bar but its still there.

Anybody have any ideas what would be causing it?

My thought would be those 3" spacers up front. Everything seems tightly done and was installed by a "pro" I'm at a loss for him and he's wanted a Cherokee for a long time but he's ready to sell it for 2500 bucks.

At what speed does he get the DW? I have had issue with wobble on the front right tire due to an unbalanced tire. Have him rotate the tires first to see if that is it vs tracking down a mechanical problem.

 

Did you search? Death wobble is one of the most popular topics on any Jeep forum. There are hundreds of threads listing out every possible cause (and there are a LOT of possible causes).

If you need me to do the search here and give you the links I will . . .

 

literally dozens of explinations for DW. make a list of possiblities and try the free diagnosis first then move on up the possible part replacement based on examination and movement. i.e. get the rig on jacks and start shaking parts. what moves what doesn't.

 

I used the 3" spacers before with no DW issues whatsoever. I would not recommend them for any serious off roading though. As previously stated DW can be caused by many different things. You already crossed the track bar off the list which is one if the main causes.

 

Not if the bolt hole is wallowed out (which many are).

 

I have a 96, 4door...originally ran a 4.5" Rubicon with 32" tires, stock rims with 1 1/2" spacers (just for the rubbing)..... Never got the wobbles....recently went to a 6.5" Rusty's Long Arm and 35" tires, ditched the spacers and got new wheels with the correct off-set (don't remember for sure but I think they recommended the 4.5" off set?)...also installed a good heavy duty steering stabilizer......again no wobbles! I would recommend you start out with the obvious, make sure everything is tight especially the trac bar, get your front caster at about 6 degree's positive and install a good stabilizer.

 

A stabilizer - no matter how good, will never cure death wobble and a stabilizer, no matter how bad it is, will never cause death wobble.

They are a band aid.

 

I did a search and don't need you to do it. I didn't find anything that we hadn't talked about so that's why I made a new thread. Maybe I missed something to this kind of set up or whatever. There's a lot to try and read through and find the bits and pieces That may pertain to this set up. If it hurt your feelings that I made a new post my bad.

And thanks for pointing out the bolt whole may be part of the issue.

I will tell you why - because those 3" spacers, no matter how deplorable they are, aren't the cause of his death wobble.

And right there is why you started a new thread - you wanted us to give you the answer without you (or him) actually having to research it.

Fine - here you go:

• Track bar joints
• Track bar mounting hole
• Lower control arm bolts/holes
• Lower control arm bushings
• Upper control arm bolts/holes
• Upper control arm bushings
• Upper balljoints
• Lower balljoints
• Hubs/Unit bearings
• Tierod ends/balljoints
• Steering box
• Alignment
• Tires out of balance
• Bent wheel(s)

When you have checked all of those let us know.

 

Im just going to say this and ill see if I can get a mod to close this thread so you don't get your panties in any more of a wad than They already are. There's a ton to read through and I might have missed something. I didn't know if having that big of a spacer would effect it or not and didn't see it so I thought I would ask and see. I wasn't sure if the way the springs seated to them could cause it. I didn't know and couldn't find anything on that in particular. I didn't want to find out by being lazy just looking for help from fellow jeepers who might have had an issue with this lift before. Sorry for asking for help for somebody who's ready to sell his xj because of it. If it bothers you so much You don't have to respond to my thread you could just walk away.

 

I just gave you the list again Ace. Read over it and check it all. If you have already checked something on the list then scratch it off. If it isn't on the list then it isn't causing his death wobble.

 

Well when I first came to it it wasn't there. I didn't edit your post just quoted it. Thanks for the list. Most of those have been checked off but ill double check with him on a few others.

 

This forum requires reading. Every Jeep has a unique history and wear pattern, thus different things wear and cause deathwobble. Check the list provided and replace what you find to be worn.
