Other than having the issue of axle wrap, its also been told that the leafs have & will crack if flipped! I would recommend iirc 94-04 S-10 main leafs which will give you 3" of stretch, & 1.25" longer leaf thus better shackle angle! Flipping the leafs stretches it about 6"s which will make your diff become close friends with the gas tank, although you can squeeze 3" without meeting the tank!

We tried the S10 springs on my buddys but they were too long and made the shackle almost flat and it hit the body, ended up cutting the eyes off the main leaf and using them in a bastard pack since we had them. The springs alone gave about 2" and they were out of a 4wd Z06 model.

Think about this. People use s10 spring to build a bastard pack for lift. It basically forces your Stock XJ main leaf up to give you the lift. If you only use the S10 springs it will give you more lift than a bastard pack b/c its not having to force against the XJ leaf. Now, it will move the axle back about 3". The only things you will need to do are a longer rear drive shaft and buy or build a Shackle relocation kit that will move your mounting point a little to the rear.

I have the HDO shackle relocators (2nd hole). I had to replace my fuel pump this last weekend and drop my skid and tow hitch since the relocators were installed over them. At any rate, I was noticing that I could relocate new front mounts about 4 inches back or so and still use the last hole on my shackle brackets and get that much stretch.
I'd obviously need to comp cut and raise the tank. Oh well. Que sera sera. E pluribus unum. Tierra del sol.

Not to say u mess up but r u sure they are in right? B/c the s10 springs from front mount to axle pin is about 3 inches longer. The rear section, from axle pin to rear mount is about the same as a Cherokee I believe. Check ur install and yes u will need to do something with the rear shackles b/c the spring is 3 inches longer.

It's 3" longer measured along the leaf surface, not horizontally, so it would be less than 3".

If you are going to stretch the rear any I would go with Explorer/Ranger leafs. Stock they are sprung under and should be good for 4-6" of lift on an XJ, Ranger leafs are the same length and would give a little less lift, but keep the flex make sure you get the 4+1 Ranger packs as the others ones are a bit to soft. They stretch the wheel base 2.5-3" and flex a lot better. Running a shackle relocation box and hacking the fenders is all that's needed to use them outside of a different driveshaft.
