I KNOW there is a write up somewhere, but if you remove the trans control unit, or its fuse, it won't shift out of 1st until 4500rpm(pressure shift).
I found this:

thnx
thnx for the info all,
not looking to spend 150 on a switch that i can wire my self... am just looking to see if any one has this done on a 97+
seems that most have it done on older models
im pretty sure i have the right wire (the yellow one) if i have the switch turned on (cutting power to the TC) it should in theory stay in first right? Or do i have to have a second switch to control the solenoid?
-side note when i do have my switch on and try to start the jeep i get nothing (it doenst start)... so im doing something in there
specific pictures would be great
thanks again!
sorry buck i know u put some effort into me already but am still struggling

On *most* AW4 transmissions it has a built in function to lock into first gear. While stopped, shift from D straight down to 1-2. This will lock it in first gear. Works on my '99 and I know people who have confirmed it to work on their 93 and 95. The only problem is without a big switch reminding me of it, I often forget I can do that lol

If you want to have it locked in first gear all you need to do is put a switch in the power lead to the #2 solenoid. You simply flip the switch to off and cut the power to it while in the 1-2 position.
