Default Finally getting a locker! But got some questions..

I Know this has been covered before and I have searched it and looked into it but still have some questions. I'm looking at Aussie front and rear lockers. Dana 30 and Chrysler 8.25
1. Is Aussie a good quality locker that is reliable?
2. Can I still daily drive it everyday with it fully locked without any problems?
3. Should I go front or rear first? What is better for offroad? Wanting to do front..
4. Can you install them without any special tools and if you're only a little mechanically inclined? Haha
5. Will they clunk.. My dads jeep makes horrible clunks and I really don't want a locker that's gonna clunk all the time, part of the reason I wanna lock the front first, I hear they don't clunk because it's not in 4wd.
And if you guys have any comments about Aussie I'd love to hear them! Thank you guys.

1. Havent heard anything bad about aussie
2. You can still DD it.. tires will wear faster
3. I vote going for the front first..That will be more friendly for street driving
4. May want to get someone that has installed em before to help
5. They will clunk.

I always like the convenience of selectable lockers.. but they cost a bit more.

When exactly will they clunk? All the time or just sometimes on a turn like I've read on here?

Kind of when they want..but mostly on turns..the rear tires may chirp a bit if your turning too as the locker engages and disengages.

Ah gotcha. I can see why selectable ones would be good. But gotta stick with the cheap stuff haha I also heard from a buddy they suck in snow? Why would having a locker decrease performance in snow?

I installed the Aussie in my 8.25, went pretty smooth. Make sure you have everything you need before you begin. Feeler gauges, gasket/rtv, gear oil, basic sockets. I used a heavier oil as recommended by others. Took about an hour to install.

On the rear, it ratchets (clunks) only when going around corners. If you are light on the skinny pedal it is not bad. I believe you won't notice anything if you put it on the front and are in 2wd since it is not engaged.

If your more dding it id do the front, either one you lock is going to show great improvements when u wheel.

A ratcheting locker will make noise, some louder than others. If you put it in your front then the locker will be disengaged when your in 2wd. I run lucas 85x140 and mine is up front. I dont run an aussie but a spartan. Mine makes a very faint click when almost fully locked.

I put an aussie in my buddys tj d30 and his is just as quiet as mine. The reason i did the front was because you can get out of 4wd and its not locked, also my front has way more travel than my rear.

Alright so I'm definitely gonna go with the front locker. One more question, having lockers doesn't affect gas mileage does it?

As for snow performance on an auto locker, it will only affect you in 4wd. Because the tires can't rotate as freely while turning like an open diff they have a tendency to go straight. Welded diffs can do the same.

good call. I like my aussie front. only makes noise on uturns. can't feel it any other time ever. in 4x4 it's a loud stubborn ***** but you get used to it quickly. have you looked into ujoint upgrades? spicer 760s with full circle snap rings?
