Engine swap, 4.0 to 3.8 or 5.0 diesel
I'm looking to swap out my 4.0 engine on my 2000 Cherokee for either an ISF 3.8 or 5.0 Cummins diesel, I was wondering if anyone has attempted this kind of swap & if so, how did it go & what do I need to look out for & what do I need to know before attempting this swap. I appreciate any info someone might have.
Honestly only swap i would do is a ls motor because of the swap parts out there,But even then the swap is 6k or more. Now to swap a cummins like that with no swap parts at all your looking more money. Can you weld and fab your own parts ?

From what I have seen the Cummins swap only works if you have a quite tall lift or run without a hood. They are just too tall to fit in there any other way.
You need to think about things like what trans you'll have to use since i doubt anyone makes adapter kits for those engines. If its bigger in size then a 700r4/4l60e your trans tunnel will be history.Since they all are efi now wiring and ecu will become another thing to think about. And how low does the oil pan hang and a lot of thinking and planing needs to happen before trying it.Some have swapped in the early benz diesel because its easier and swap parts are out there. The other one is a vw diesel swap that some have done.
