I don't think you'll find off the shelf stuff to swap in a 302, but I like the idea. I have an 86 Comanche and the firewall/core support won't allow the length of a 4.0.
I will say that an AX15 from any Jeep or Dakota can bolt up to the Dakota 3.9 bellhousing, which opens your options up to a LOT of engines. It's the same bellhousing as the 3.9, 3.7, 318 (5.2), 360 (5.9), and Hemi 5.7. With the transmission bolted to the existing crossmember, you can position the engine with a floor jack and fab the motor mounts.
