Default Engine Light - Miss Fire - Would like some Help

Ok, Inspection is up on my 01 XJ as of the begining of this month (5/1/12). I can't seem to get my check engine light to shut off & i can 't get a new inspection till it is off (gotta love NYS government). My mechanic (good frined of mine) & I have been working on my XJ all year on & off and haven't been able to shut the damb thing off!

Changed plugs, wires, checked all O2 sencers, etc.... Any ideas as to what else I can try. When we clear the codes I drive it like 50 miles & the Fricken thing comes back on .

I bought it and put $6K into it so far, then the light comes on & I can't get it to shut off! It's gonna drive me to drink (more than I do now)!

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance..........

** Moderators, I put this in the incorrect section, please move to OEM Cherokee Tech.... Thanks

Not from last years' inspection. I'm going to drop it off at my friends shop on monday. He said he'll make it pass. Before he clears the codes I'll have him give them to me & I'll post them.

Thanks for the info. so far...

It's good to know it "sucks to be you too" . Before i bought my 01 XJ i had a 04 WJ (loved it). I let my wife trade it in on her new VeeDub. I almost bought another WJ and planned on lifting that. But NOOOOO I had to grab an 01 XJ and it's a friggin nightmare!

Thanks for the tip, at this point, I'll try anything to get that damb light off!

You said checked o2's, does this mean they are still on? They seem to be such a common issue with this problem. But, good that it's going on a code reader. That will hopefully give you a direction.
Other thought might be the TPS, IAC valve, MAP sensor, vacuum leak clock spring- it grounds the TPS. Or possibly a fuel delivery issue. Does it backfire at manifold?

Thanks for everything, my friend found out that I had a broken line that (hope I get this right) that goes to the charcoal canister. Once he fixed that, he cleared the codes & it hasn't come back on as of yet. Passed inspection, all is good, now gotta get my sue put in so I can get my driveshaft that I already paid for.

Thanks again
