Heres the deal, i have a 98 xj with an older motor, an older i6 out an xj I assume. Recently started making a weird knocking noise so I have decided to rebulid it. My plan is to build a stroker of some kind but ran into my first issue: dont know the specific year of the current motor so i can't order any kits or parts. Does anyone know how to tell what year the motor is by some sort of vin on the block itself or???
anyone have any good links or suggestions for parts/ stroker builds?
p.s: Before anyone asks, this is exactly how i bought my xj, stupid mistake of previous owner to swap in older motor!

Not what u are looking for, but the knocking noise could be the flywheel. Would hate to see u put a ton of money into it and have it just be a cracked flywheel.
