Hello,
I found some leather seats for my xj but they are not the right color. Have any of you good people had success re-dyeing leather car seats a new color? I have seen videos online, but a local vehicle upholstery shop says bad idea. I just want to go from agate gray to black. Any help would be appreciated thanks.

Im just guessing, but it would probably be faster and cheaper to find the right color ones in the Junk Yard, or go buy some nice tight fitting leather seat covers.
I agree with RockyMtn96XJ.
But if you are trying to change the color I would research the SEM brand paints.
You want the Classic Coat stuff.

Both of these smell like the closest thing I can find to real leather/new car scent: from Chemical Brothers. Conveniently in a 2-pack.
I love them.
Also the Yankee Candle Leather car scent along with their New Car smell are really good too.
They ALL have a fresh new material smell. Nothing fruity or musky, nothing that smells like cologne or anything else. Just a nice new car smell for all 4 of them.
I've used them for about a year and the jeep has the smell in there now. I dont have to replace them all that often at all because they have been in there so long. And the spray just gives it a boost. I spray it in the floor boards when I'm on Max so it circulates.
What I'm getting at is, you can use these to give the smell of leather if you go with PVC covers.
Do the PVC covers give off any smell? Or did they at first and now the smell is gone?
All I can imagine is the smell of getting on the school bus back in the 80s and those horrible, cold PVC covered seats in the bus...HAHAHAHA

Dyeing is for repairs. Not for changing the color of a whole seat. It’s carefully done by a professional with an air brush. I’d follow the advice of the professionals at the upholstery shop.
