bought a xj with a cv rear axle. the dual cardan was squeaking so I tore it apart only to find out that xj's don't have stock cv rear driveshafts and NAPA doesn't have the part. I'll post pictures tomorrow... but for now, can you list possible manufacturers so I can either match the picture or shop for a new rear driveshaft.
trying NOT to spend too much... but who is? lol

If you measure the cap OD, the cross spans, and take the centering ball in with you, a good parts guy can flip to the back of the Spicer catalogue and sort out what you need from the measurements.
The Double Cardan on rear setup isn't OEM - but it's not a bad idea. As long as the rear axle has been shimmed so that the pinion points to the transfer case output. Check.

thanks for the reply. do you know if spicer has an online catalog? and does NAPA carry that brand? I took the part in and he only showed me two centering yokes, both out of NAPA boxes. neither fit

a front driveshaft from an XJ with an automatic transmission should bolt right into the transfer case and rear axle. I've been running a front shaft as my rear driveshaft for years now. much much cheaper than an aftermarket replacement

Storm, you should be able to find a local drive train shop for trucks. Usually they will be able to repair your cardan shaft. It is worth a shot, I've had two repaired in truck drive train shops.

I actually just did all the research on repairing the centering joint over the past few days and picked up the parts for it today. 9 times out of 10 if your running a factory axle still the set up is using 1310, unless the previous owner when through the hassle of changing out the axle end yoke. If you are trying to repair the 1310 set up, you'll need a centering yoke that contains the centering ball inside the double cardan joint. Napa carries this part it is PUJ 607 and the ujoints are PUJ 280. PUJ stands for precision universal joints. They are the manufacturer and their parts can be picked up at nearly every retail parts store. that should be all you need to rebuild it, unless the post that the centering yoke mounts to is damaged, then it would be a lot cheaper to pick up a reman. driveshaft.
A lot of words for a little info, but I hope this helps.

Thanks xjfanatic, I have the part on order and it'll be here tomorrow morning.
Attached is a pic of the yoke and a pic of the driveshaft.
I wish we had a dl shop on my island, that would make life a whole lot easier lol
