Default Dual battery question 1998 XJ

I have already done the cowl snorkel, so the airbox is gone.

My question is about the control module mounted inside the driver's front fender.

I want to move it back towards the firewall, to make room for the battery.

Can it be mounted in any position, or does it have to remain vertical?

Also has anyone actually mounted the stock size battery on the driver's side?

My goal is to put my new stock battery on the driver's side and make it disconnectable.
Then I want to put a deep cycle battery in the stock tray to power everything including a 1500 watt inverter.
The stock battery will be disconnected with Anderson connectors so that it can be used to restart the vehicle in the event that the deep cycle becomes drained. (like when on a camping trip, and the engine is off)

There is no mention of any sensors within the PCM. So technically it could be mounted in any position. I'd watch for water and heat in new position.

Id deff keep plugs as much in down position as possible less chance of water retention.

Here's mine its a stock battery tray 700cca battery and just a homemade bracket for the PCM. I'm using a battery isolator the stock battery runs the Jeep secondary battery runs on my accessories and can't drain each other.

Thanks, that is just what I needed for what to do with the module. I was gonna lay it down, but you have it standing up still.
Any chance you have picks of that new mounting bracket for the module, or how you mounted the battery tray?

Also just wondering if the power steering pump is as close as it looks to the battery. If so, any issues with it hitting as the engine moves in it's mounts?

The bracket mounts in the factory location with a 90* bend its cut on the bottom to clear the wires and its cut off the top to clear the washer neck. My battery is a little long but I already had it, it's close but doesn't hit

wrapstar; what was the level of difficulty of doing all that? looks like a ball breaker. i'm looking to do the same thing(same set up with the spectre intake) but i'm weary of moving the PCM

I like it. Simple and functional. The kind of ideas that can make you money.
Think about it. Dual battery kit for XJ. Don't be surprised if you see it being marketed in the near future..

Cool intake duct. What's hiding behind the rest of the picture? You got me curious. The battery doubling idea can't be your only really good idea.

My dad owns a starter and alternator rebuild shop I build custom charging systems for all the local stereo shops. This one was one of the easiest I've ever done. You measure for the relocation bracket the battery tray fits perfectly just have to drill two holes and and decide how you want to isolate it. It was pretty cheap too. Here's the whole setup

That explains how clean the set up is.

Wrangler NW Sells a battery tray for XJ that does both. It serves as support for the relocated ECU and as a battery tray. You can see the install and fit in my build thread...

I'm in process of doing electrical work on my 90 XJ chassis harness and 94 XJ ECM harness , while adding in a Aux busman fuse box and wrangler NW battery tray for dual battery set up. So far ran into this issue with the tray. ECM is bigger than mount as shown by picture. still figuring out how im going to mount it
