Default Dry Starts

Now thats its getting cold outside, every now and then when i go out and start my XJ in the morning i get a loud clicking noise when it first starts up, it eventually goes away, this is hit or miss and doesnt happen too often, ive been told its just dry starting and that its normal, but it still worries me. any thoughts??

I usually switch to a thinner oil for winter, even though it doesn't get extremely cold here it helps. I personally run 10w30 for summer and 5w30 for winter. Also i run a k&n filter which is suppose to help with dry starts.

Lol @ K&N air filters helping with dry starts. Different oil grade.

i didnt think the filter would have anything to do with dry starts but ill try a different oil viscosity and see what happens

you would probably be safer assuming its a K&N oil filter...

Just put some lucas in there with your oil. Should eliminate the dry starting issues. I run amsoil and still include a quart of lucas in with my oil change.

Edit: i don't think that the oil filter has anything to do with dry starts. Some say they have anti drain back valves, but if you remove your filter before you do your oil change, I have noticed the only oil that spills out is from the filter and nothing comes from the block. I personally run wix filters.
