Doesn't grind in 4lo
Ok, after about a year of Panda sitting on the street I am finally trying to tackle her "issues." First on the agenda is the grinding noise that seems to be coming from the transfer case. It sounds chainsaw like almost. It grinds like this as soon as I take it out of park when it is in 2wd, 4ft, and 4hi. While in 4lo it does not grind and drive forwards and backwards fine.
98 Auto, NP242. Lifted, SYE, symptoms were present before moving forward with additional lift and SYE though.
I've adjusted and tinkered with the linkage until no end. I've engaged it manually even so at this point I am thinking it is in the case. The only thing that stumps me is the fact that things seem fine in 4lo. So before I drop my long arms and all that jazz...any suggestions that keep me from tearing into Panda?
Thanks,
Bo

You're gonna need to pull that Tc out and open it up. You're bound to do it sometime, so mine as well do it now. Once you open her up, I'm sure the problem will be obvious !!

sounds like the chain is way past due. Which can cause other issues.
Open her up and see what's the problem. Just be prepared to go to the junk yard if there are metal shards.

Yea, really hoping that it is the shift fork pads. They are cheap so going to go ahead and have a set on hand, might even do the chain while I have it open.
