So I just bought a 2000 XJ and I'm in the process of fixing whats needs fixed. I've got a steering stabilizer that I can grab by hand and move the fixed end (passenger side) around in the mounting location. Could this be the source of my death wobble?
I've already replaced sway bar bushings and all the tie rod ends look to be OK. I don't want to mask the death wobble by getting a new stabilizer but if this looseness is the actual source then I'll replace it.

It is not the source.....it is just a by product of it. Putting a new one in may well indeed mask the problem if it isn't too bad.
Have you checked the ball joints ?? Wheel bearings ?
Did you check the tie rod by watching them while someone cycled the steering, or did you just look at them ??
Sway bar bushings have nothing to do with death wobble.

Check the trackbar mount at the axle. The hole may have opened up, allowing the trackbar to pop. Watch the mount and bar as someone turns the wheels. Look for any loose or worn suspension components. Tires, balljoints, shocks, control arm bushings, etc..

did you have her cycle it back and forth quickly ?
if she did it slow, it may not show play.......need to cycle it rapidly back & forth using the power steering (engine running)
