I've got a 1996 XJ that didn't come from the factory with a pigtail in the wiring harness for the dash clock, but want to install one anyways. I'm putting two gauges in the stock dash clock location so I'm going to put the clock where the cigarette lighter currently is, and reroute that on the opposite side from the electric mirror controls down by the emergency brake. I think it's a pretty simple mod. The clock only has a few wires and the cigarette lighter is just a wiring extension and relocation. The hardest part honestly is trimming the dash clock to fit in that lower smaller dash panel. This is my progress so far. Let me know what you guys think, or if you have any suggestions!
Both side by side unmodified
Dash clock trimmed down.
Cigarette lighter brackets cut to size Mockup front Mockup rear
All there is left is to plastic weld the parts together, run wiring, and install! And of course relocate existing cigarette lighter.
