Default Dana 44 Question - Which Vehicles Can I Pull From?

I have a Chrysler 8.25 currently.

The one and ONLY reason I'm considering a swap to a Dana 44 is the fact that there does not seem to be any good E-Lockers for an 8.25, let's not make this a debate about electronic lockers versus air lockers please. I WANT E-Lockers. So I am looking into options.

If you know of any E-Lockers for an 8.25 then please share! I have not been able to find much of anything. All the forums say that the 8.25 just seems to be left out alot when it comes to aftermarket options, but most of those threads were several years old. So maybe things have changed a bit?

But I would like to know what vehicles I can pull a Dana 44 from that is a direct bolt on to my 1999 XJ Sport.

And some information on what gears and what spline count came on those vehicles would be very helpful as well if you know off the top of your head. Otherwise I'll Google!

And no! I don't want to do an 8.8 swap.

I want E-Lockers and if I have to pursue a Dana 44 swap then that is what I'll do.

Also, I have a Dana 30 up front currently.

Are there any direct bolt on front Dana 44's for the front? Would I need a drive shafts adapter or anything?

What are yalls experiences with axle swaps?

Thanks in advanced for any info!

I have the same setup as you and just decided to go with Detroit Lockers for both. Have been pleased with them in all aspects of operation on and off road, plus there very quiet even with my 4.56 gears.

Have you ever had problems with them engaging when don't need them? Or not engaging when you do?

Honestly I am pretty dead set on E-Lockers... I want the option to Conrol when they lock and don't with out the noise and hassle of air lockers. The E-Lockers allow for a cleaner installation.

87-90 XJ's with tow packages came with dana 44 rear axles. If you can find one, you're kinda lucky. Also some Comanche's around that time came with them too. The XJ is a direct bolt on, but the Comanche has the leaf springs under the axle, so you would have to move the spring perches to the top.

What do you have against 8.8's? They're cheaper and more plentiful than XJ 44's, stronger, and have discs.

Like already said, bolt in 44's are a bit rare, and most sellers seem to think they're made of gold. Other, more common 44's are going to require fab anyway, so might as well use the more plentiful 8.8.

Only bolt in rear dana 44 is from a early xj and is rare to find now a days.Front only bolt one is from a tj rubicon but its not a true dana 44 its more like a dana 30 with a dana 44 center in it.It uses the same axle tubes and knuckles as the dana 30.If you could have some welding done a 1980 and newer jeep wagoneer dana 44 is close to stock width but its low pinon and 6 lugA rear dana 44 stock width and matching 6 lug is early isuzu rodeo/honda passport.

No not with the Detroit's I haven't had any issues and they are very quiet, the front isn't used till in 4wd and the rear isn't noticeable at all.
