dana 44 axle
Hi all.
I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right section.
I can get a dana 44 complete axle from a TJ for about $920. Should i go for it? Will it work in my xj?
Thanks

Not a TJ D44. And not in South Africa
Thats unfortunate.
I doubt it.
Arent TJ D44s locked or at least limited slip?
To answer the OPs question it will indeed be the same width and such, however TJs are coil sprung all around, XJs are leafs in the rear. Some fab work must be done.

If you have the fab skills to do the rear coil conversion that would be bad ***..Do a write-up if you do. When your looking for an axle make sure it has the same gear-ratio as your other axle. The 8.8 would be your best bet, but if your set on buying the tj 44 then go for it and do the coil conversion.

First of all what axle do you have in your Jeep? Because if you have a chrysler 8.25 all I would do is get 29spline shafts shipped over there. 29 spline 8.25 is almost as strong as a d44 and shipping on just the shafts shouldnt be that much. If you have a d35 then rather then spending this much cash on an axle that does not fit at all just get a 8.8 from an explorer. Never been to Africa but it seems to me like explorers are more abundant overseas then Jeeps.
