Default Dana 35

I have a cherokee with a Dana 35, 3.55 gears and I found a grand cherokee with a Dana 35, 3.55 gears can I take the guts out of the grand cherokee and put them in my cherokee? I know the axle housings aren't the same but I'm just wondering if the ring, pinion, and everything else are the same?

You would be better off buying a kit from ebay for the one you have, 'taking the guts' from one to the other is quite a chore indeed especially setting the pinion bearings up with the crush sleeve. So the short answer is NO because you would need new crush sleeve. If you never did a pinion before you would be well advised to school yourself on the size of what you are getting into.

Well then ok I guess. I understand your apprehension. But a d35 is a d35, not sure but should be same carrier and ring and pinion, just I'm not sure.

Buy an 8.25 for really cheap. Put it under your jeep. You'll have less work and expense and come out with a stronger axle. 97-01 are the strongest 8.25

This times 100. My 8.25 was got for $125, and took me ~ an hour or so to install. No messing with gears and seals and stuff, it was all good when I bought it.

By far the last two replies are an excellent choice for a much stronger differential and most all came with 3.55 gears that had an AW4. The main reason for staying with the D35 is if for some reason you wanted to keep the ABS but most remove it anyway.

If it were me I would buy a new set of gears and a master install kit if you stick with the D35, they aren't that high in cost new I bought a full set ft. & rear for mine with both master install kits for under $500 from Rustys Off Road.

All you will need are new U-Bolts to fit the 8.25 other than that a direct bolt-in. If you can get the driveshaft with the 8,25 you might as well pick it up as I'm not sure on the lengths of the 2.

The housing is longer so the driveshaft might be too long, depending on your jeep.
